Genise White Johnson Obituary

Genise White Johnson transitioned on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born July 16, 1961, she was the daughter of Maggie Carter White and the Late Robert Isaiah White and was a member of Berea Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Genise was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a member of the 1979 graduating class of Sumter High School. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Morris College and continued her educational pursuits by completing graduate studies at Grand Canyon University.

Genise had excellent work ethics, which allowed her to be a valuable and productive member of society.  She was employed at Tuomey Hospital (now Prisma Health) for twenty-nine years, serving in various medical capacities and departments. She also served as a principal and teacher with the Seventh Day Adventist Organization, and as a teacher for the Sumter County School District.

Genise had a radiant smile and a drawing personality. She was indeed her “Brother’s Keeper”. She was always willing to help others in any way that she could.  Even during her sickness, she was able to uplift and encourage everyone around her. She did not complain but remained positive through her trials and tests. She always expressed her thankfulness for any kindness and generosity shown to her.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, her husband, Solomon Johnson of Sumter, SC; three children, Toney McFadden of Charlotte, NC, Rodney (Denys) McFadden of Sebring, Florida, and LeAnne (Anthony) Spann of Raleigh, NC; her mother, Maggie Carter White of Sumter, SC; three siblings, Michael White of  Charlotte, NC, Debbie (Ricky) James and Belinda Conyers both of Sumter, SC; a step-daughter, Solodria James of Sumter, SC; six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Verlyn Johnson and Arnold (Gwendolyn) Johnson of Sumter, SC; and a sister-in-law, Pastor Alfreda Johnson of Sumter, SC.

In addition to her father, Genise was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Solomon and Mary Gadson Johnson; her paternal and maternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
