Frederick Lewis Obituary

As We Knew Our, “Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend”

Frederick Lewis was born on Friday, December 6, 1957, in Columbia, South Carolina, the second eldest son of Dorothy Bright Lewis and the late William H. Lewis.  He was affectionately known as “Daddy” by his children, “Papa” by his grandchildren, “Fred” by siblings, “Unc” by his nieces and nephews, and “Friend” to many. He passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025, in his 66th season.

Fredrick spent his life in Columbia, graduating from Eau Claire High School in 1976. He had an adventurous childhood with his siblings Jimmy, Gerald, and Earnestine, enjoying sports, swimming, and riding his prized Honda CB350 motorcycle. He supported inmates at the South Carolina Department of Corrections for over 20 years until his health declined.

Frederick was an avid admirer of classic Westerns featuring John Wayne and maintained a lifelong enthusiasm for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He valued both writing and music and often enjoyed breakfast with his daughter at Waffle House as well as sharing fried chicken meals at Lizard Thicket with his parents. Frederick valued his family deeply. He didn’t allow his health challenges to keep him away from attending family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

The cherished jewels that preceded him in death are his wife, Synthia D. Lewis; sister, Ernestine Lewis; brother, Eric A. “Tony” Hunter; and father, William H. Lewis.

Frederick leaves to cherish his memories his loving children, Dante Lewis and Aneisa (Chris) Lewis Mohead, both of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Bre’on Lewis, Aubrey Lewis, Synthia Lewis, and Amir Mohead; great-grandchild, Zu’Rayah Lewis; mother, Dorothy B. Lewis; siblings, James H. Lewis, Gerald L. (Mary) Lewis, all of Columbia, SC, and Barbara Lewis of Louisville, KY; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and countless relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly  miss him.
