Freddie shell Obituary

Mr. Freddie Shell was born 29 January 1936 in Manhattan, New York to Minnie Shell-Tinsley. He was raised by Emanuel & Annie Mae Oglesby Shell in Columbia, South Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life on Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

“Fred” as he was affectionately known, grew up in a small area of Columbia called State Park, SC. He was educated in Richland County Public Schools. He served in the United States Army. After serving his term in the military, he worked for Richland County School District-One until his health declined.

Freddie was a man that loved the Lord and was a big fan of Gospel Quartet Music. It wasn’t very often that you would visit him and not hear his gospel music in the background. In his last days, his music seemed to soothe him and put him in a happy place. Because of his love, Freddie also had a big caring and giving heart, so much so, that if he could help you, he would.

Mr. Shell is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Minnie Lee Shell-Stearns and his brothers, Grover, Virgil, and Willie Shell.

Mr. Shell was a beloved and devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories, his wife, Mozell Jean Shell, children, Brenda Ellison McClain, Steve Shell, Carolyn Ellison, Teresa (Rodney) Sligh and Anthony Shell Sr., all of Columbia, SC. He is survived by  nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; aunt, Family Matriarch, Lecie Shell-Worthy, of Columbia, SC; brother; Deacon Rufus (Barbara) Shell, of Columbia, SC; sisters: Carrie  Mae Tinsley of  Manhattan, NY, Ola Mae (Frank) Barnett of East Orange, NJ, Euretha (Tim) Coleman, Mary Henry, Maude Davis, Addie Branch and Gloria Diane Shell, all of Columbia, SC; Brother-In-Law; Moses Ellison of Columbia, SC; Sister-In-Laws, Sadie and Janie Shell, Margaret Robinson, Kathleen (Mike) Campbell and Annie Bell (Charles) Owens, all of Columbia, SC and Emma Shell of Las Vegas, NV; and a host of other of relatives & friends, who will all miss him dearly.

Special recognition to Louretha Sampson (niece) for being an awesome caregiver, an earthly angel.
