Eugene Brown, Jr. affectionally known as “Gene” by family and friends, was born on February 14, 1944, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Margaret Adams Brown-Loyd and Ernest Brown, and the stepson of the late Sam Loyd, Jr. On Tuesday February 24, 2026, Eugene transitioned to his eternal resting place into the arms of our Lord and Savior.
Eugene was educated in the public schools of South Carolina. He was employed with the City of Columbia from which he retired after many years of dedicated service.
Eugene was baptized at a young age. He had a very loving and supportive Christian Family, and he was a very faithful and dedicated member of Charity Baptist Church of Hopkins, SC for 30 years where he worshiped under the leadership of Pastor Jack Smith and dutifully served. During his tenure he served as a dedicated Trustee and wherever he was needed.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, whose life was defined by his service of hard work and a deep love for everyone. Although Eugene has departed this life, his love, thoughtfulness, kindness and unwavering support and love will continue to inspire those who knew him, he will greatly be missed but never forgotten.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Walter A. Brown, Lewis F. Brown and Roland S. Brown; sisters, Dorothy B. Prince and Georgia M. Anderson; niece, Patricia Brown; nephew, C. J. Sims; and stepson, Michael Jackson.
Eugene’s legacy of kindness and generosity lives on through his loving family including his beloved wife of 27 years, Ethel Mae Brown of Columbia, SC; daughter, Eunice Bostic of Columbia, SC; granddaughter, Moriah Johnson of Columbia, SC; sisters, Juanita B. McLamore, Ruthen B. Scott, and Lorraine B. Miller, all of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Dianne Jackson Webb of Augusta, GA; brothers-in-law, Randy Lee (Melinda J.) Jackson of Augusta, GA; brother-in-law, Ronnie Lee (Regina) Jackson of Jacksonville, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and dear friends.
