Ernestine Hampton Frierson

Ernestine Hampton Frierson was born October 13, 1933, in Sumter, South Carolina, the beloved daughter and second youngest of eight children born to the late Acquilla and Anna Peterson  Hampton.  She peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord in the early hours of the morning of Friday, July 17, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Ms. Frierson was formerly married to Willie Frierson. They were blessed with two children, Marcello and Mavis.

She attended the Goodwill Presbyterian Church School and graduated from Sumter High School. After devoting many years to being a stay-at-home mom, Ms. Frierson joined the workforce where she was employed at Shakespeare Monofilament Division.

Her love for helping others led her to serve as a Site Director with Meals on Wheels, where she was dedicated to serving her community. In her later years she embarked on a new chapter in her career, where she was employed by the Forestry Commission.

Ms. Frierson was a devoted member at First Nazareth Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina.

She loved life and people. Her passions included bowling, fishing, cooking and dancing. She loved spending time with family and friends. Her greatest joy was caring for children and her grandchildren.

Those who are forever cherishing fond and precious memories of Ernestine are her loving son,  Marcello (Rebecca) Frierson Sr.; and loving and caring daughter, Mrs. Mavis F. (Nathaniel, Jr.) Harper; four adoring grandchildren, Brittnee Frierson, Marcello (Morgan) Frierson II, Nathaniel Harper III, and Matthew (Holly) Frierson; five adoring great-grandchildren, Quintin Gayten, Madysen Gayten, Aliyah Gayten, Francesca and Maxwell Frierson; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will treasure her memory and carry her legacy forward.
