Eric Jahann Nixon was born December 18, 1981, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved and middle son of three born to the late Cynthia Delphine Nixon and Richard Davenpoert. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in Bennettsville, South Carolina.
“Big Head”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, Eric attended the public schools of Richland County. He transcended into a career as a self-taught paralegal for legal defenses in the state of South Carolina. His knowledge contributed to the appeals and classification of cases for many who were without legal defense. His tenacity for fairness and his skills for seeking the truth help many to receive rightful and just process in their cases.
A blessing to society, Eric loved advocating for inmates who felt hopeless and unsure of their rights. His daily contributions to others have freed many who were wrongfully convicted on many occasions. Because Eric maintained the respect and ethics for others, he was often extended an open door with the Prosecutors in the 5th Circuit Solicitors office. He will be remembered for his help in making sure that due diligence and compassion for those who may have been charged without due process were given a fair chance. He remained dedicated to the rights of others even during his incarceration, always willing to help others.
Though Eric never had children of his own, he loved his nephews and nieces as if they were his own. He will be missed by all those who loved and knew him.
Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories of Eric are his caring brother, Sammie Nixon III; and his loving sister, Jennie J. Walker; caring nephews, Keyshaun Philips and Tyler Miller; loving nieces, Taylour Miller and Vivian Nixon; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, and a community who will dearly miss him.
