Elouise Curry Obituary

Ms. Elouise Curry was born March 26, 1936, the beloved daughter of the late T. J. Johnson and Lonnie Bell Curry McCreary in Salley, South Carolina.  She departed this life Saturday, May 27, 2023, at MUSC, Columbia, South Carolina.

Elouise attended Elementary, Middle, and High School in Aiken County Public Schools. She loved school and participated on the Girls Basketball Team.  Elouise continued to learn throughout her life by learning how to use her Smart Phone to read the newspapers and follow her favorite sports teams scores online.  She also kept up with the local news and happenings by reading “Newsbreaks.” Elouise began her work career as a domestic worker.  She enjoyed working with the families and stayed in contact with them over the years as the children matured, went to college, and got married.  Diana and Adam continued to call and visit Elouise up until the time of her transition.

Ms. Curry worked for many years at Capitol City Manufactory, where she learned how to sew.  She loved sewing and it became a lifelong hobby of hers.  She loved making dresses, robes, hats, and jean jackets. During the pandemic she made sports masks for her family and friends.  She loved designing and making masonic wear. Elouise last job was at Doty Scientific, where she was a custodian and clerical assistant.  Eloise enjoyed working with the young engineers and assisting the office manager with clerical tasks. Even after she retired, she continued to have an interactive relationship with the staff at Doty Scientific.  They invited her to weddings, parties, and baby showers. They attended her birthday celebrations and visited her when she wasn’t feeling well.

Ms. Curry was very active in the Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in Salley,  S.C.  She loved her church and the various pastors over the years.  She faithfully attended church until her health declined.  If she was able to attend church, she walked to her favorite seat and joyfully participated in the service.  She also reminded her younger cousins to meet her at church.  Ms. Curry participated with the Seniors and was active when there was a fundraising project.  She always paid her part and encouraged family and friends to participate.  She was also happy when she could make something for the  pastor or the church.  She loved sharing with other members, and she often called to check on other members during the week.

Elouise would drive over 50 miles one way just to visit church members or participate in a special activity at the church. Ms. Curry was a member of the Togetherness Social Club for over 20 years.

This club went on various trips and raised funds to sponsor summer trips to the beach for children.  Elouise also loved traveling with her family.  She traveled to Minnesota, New York, Florida, North Carolina, Washington, DC; Alabama, Louisiana, Connecticut , Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her only brother, John Henry McCreary; two special cousins, who were her adopted sons,  Jack and Augustus Curry.
