Elmore Jackson Middleton, Jr., 78 years old of Wedgefield, South Carolina, the beloved husband of Edna Y. Middleton departed this life Friday, February 07, 2025. Elmore was born on December 2, 1946, in Vredenburgh, Alabama, the beloved son of the late Elmore Jackson Middleton, Sr. and Nora Blackman Middleton.
Elmore joined the Job Core in Colorado and from there he moved to Hartford, Connecticut working various jobs until landing a permanent job with the City of Hartford Board of Education where he worked for thirty-five years before retiring in 2003.
Elmore loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and all sports with basketball being his favorite because of being a part of the Unity Basketball team in the over thirty and over forty leagues where the team won fourteen consecutive league titles. With all that said, Elmore’s greatest love was the Gospel of Jesus Christ! In Hartford, CT, he was a contributing member of Old Ship of Zion Baptist Church where he sang in the Male Choir. After relocating to Wedgefield, SC, Elmore joined Mechanicsville United Methodist Church where he sang in the United Methodist Men Choir and Gospel Choir.
Elmore’s Slogan was – “IF I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way!!”
Elmore was a proud member of the Prince Hall Masonic Fraternity and served proudly in these houses: Past Master St. Peter’s Lodge #20; Past Worthy Paton Ruth Chapter #25; Past Grand Worthy Patron of The Order of The Eastern Star – State of Connecticut, PHA; Excellent Past High Priest Joshua Chapter #2 H.R.A.M.; Past Worthy Joshua - Tamar Court #1 Heroines of Jericho; Most Excellent Past Grand High Priest State of Connecticut, PHA; Past Eminent Commander for Jerusalem Commandery #2; Sir Engineer Mary Magdalene Royal Court Order of Cyrene # 3; Subline Prince of Hartford Consistory #80.
Elmore leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of forty-four years, Edna Y. Middleton; his daughter, Tabatha Middleton; two sons, Elmore Middleton, III and Michael Dickens; four brothers, Jerry (Surlene) Middleton, Micheal (Rachel) Middleton, William (Bettye) Middleton, and Alfred Cameron; five sisters, Pearl Wilson, Gloria Smith, Dannie Middleton, Glenda Woods, and JohnEtta (Ricky) Ward; mother-in-law, Annie Herndon; two sisters in-law, Debra Herndon and Denise Herndon; two brothers in-law, Willie (Shawn) Herndon and Dannie Herndon; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other loving relatives and close friends.
