Elizabeth Hopkins Goodwin was born February 9, 1949, in Richland County, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late John Gilmore and Viola Hopkins. She departed this life on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Elizabeth was educated in the public school system of Richland County. She was employed as a housekeeper and laundry attendant by various companies in the City of Columbia.
She was married to the late Benjamin Goodwin, Jr. Together they were blessed with years of loved and devotion to each other.
Mrs. Hopkins was a member, was baptized and received the gift of the Holy Ghost at Shining Light Apostolic Church, under the leadership of Elder Delmore Cain. Later, she joined and became a member of Lively Stone Temple under the leadership of Bishop James Mack and Pastor Craig Cash.
Auntie Liz as she was fondly called, had a great sense of humor, and she was not afraid to speak her mind. She was a woman of fashion and had an unwavering belief in wearing a good “Sunday Hat” to church. She also enjoyed fishing and going to yard sales. She was known for her sweet potato pies, potato salad and her good homemade cakes. Auntie Liz was a loving and dedicated foster parent; and a mother to many.
Mrs. Hopkins was also preceded in death by three brothers; and four sisters.
Those who will forever cherish her fond and precious memories are her five loving sons, Robert (Lavell) Chestnut, Thomas Ford, Eugene Chestnut, Benjamin Chestnut, and Joseph Chestnut, all of Columbia, SC; four loving daughters, Sabrina Chestnut, Lottie Chestnut (Dedric) Smith, Ashley Jamison and Keondra Jamison, all of Columbia, SC; nineteen (19) grandchildren; thirty (30) great-grandchildren; one (1) great-great-grandchild; her loving sister, Suzette Hopkins Bracey of Columbia, SC; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief cause by her departure, but rejoice that she is resting with the Lord.
