Edward Robert Brown

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Edward, affectionately known as, “Robert” was born in Columbia, South Carolina on June 5, 1943.  He was the fifth of eight children born to Oliver and Mary Brown.  Edward matriculated through Richland County Public Schools.  He was a member of Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, where he was baptized at an early age.  In 1964, Robert moved to New York and worked in several occupations.  In 1974, he returned to South Carolina and enlisted in the United States Army.  After his brief service in the military, Robert was honorably discharged and pursued formal education in Art.

Robert was exceptionally creative.  He was intelligent, thoughtful, and enjoyed hobbies like listening to jazz music and good phone conversations.  Given his talent to paint and draw, Robert believed that his true calling, and love, was to be an artist.  Although he dreamed of being an artist, his passion for the form will live on. His legacy is honored through his children and grandchildren who have pursued careers in the art and film industries.  Robert was kind, generous, and loved to shop.  He could often be found with new gadgets from his two favorite channels; Home Shopping Network and QVC.

His passing was preceded by his loving parents and siblings Oliver and Mary Brown, Betty Fleming, Miriam Ashford, Melvin Brown, Oliver Brown, Jr., and Johnny Brown.

On Tuesday morning, July 30, 2019, he passed from life here to everlasting life with the Lord.  He was loved and will be missed.  To honor his life and cherish his memories, he leaves his favorite aunt Ida Mae Payne; special brother-in-law Donnell Fleming and nephew Marcus Brown; a sister Rosa (Samuel) Pelzer (Columbia, SC); brother Samuel Brown (New Castle, DE); daughters, Lynn Washington (Columbia, SC), Erika Howard (Boston, MA) and son Timothy Johnson (Las Vegas, NV); grandchildren, Terence, Keanu and Courtney; a beautiful great-granddaughter Braylynn and a host of nieces, nephews, additional relatives and friends.
