Edgar Alan White, Jr., affectionately known as “Lil Edgar,” was born in Brooklyn New York at the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital on August 8, 1972, to the proud parents Bessie Mae White and Edgar White, Sr. He was the youngest son of their union. Edgar departed this life at home with his devoted and beloved mother by his side on March 16, 2024, at the age of 51.
Edgar lived in New York until he and his family returned to Columbia S.C. Edgar attended W. J. Keenan High School and graduated in 1990. He went on to pursue various job opportunities in the security field, providing armed and unarmed services.
Edgar eventually went on to receive his commercial driver’s license and began working with the Richland County Board of Education District #2 as a driver. It was during this time that he realized his love of working with children. He took great pride in his profession and always valued the safety and well-being of his student passengers. After 26 years of service, unfortunately, that career was cut short due to physical illness.
Even though over the intervening years, Edgar faced many health challenges, the one thing that never diminished was his relationship with God. Edgar professed his faith at an early age and remained a faithful servant. One would only have to speak to him to gain this insight. Whenever asked how he was doing, his response was always the same; “I am blessed by the BEST!” Edgar never complained and always had a positive disposition about life.
Those who celebrate his life and are left to cherish his memory include: his loving mother, Bessie Mae White; his father, Edgar White Sr.; two loving brothers: Theodore Dennis (wife, Lucia) and Lavern Dennis (wife, Minister Caroline); one sister, Andrea White; one uncle, Roosevelt Lindler; and two aunts, Sarah Lindler Townsend and Gwendolyn Lindler.
He also leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, his nephews, his nieces, a host of cousins, other family, and friends.
