Dorothy Tucker Spann Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth Tucker Spann, known to her family and friends as "Dot" entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 7, 2021 in Baptist Hospital, Columbia, S.C. after a brief illness. Dot was born on June 25, 1941 in Carlisle, S.C. She was the 3rd child of the late Julian O. Tucker and Edmonia Jeter Tucker.

She was educated in the Union County Public School System and was a 1960 graduate of Sims High School, Union, S.C. Shortly after graduating from High School she migrated to Columbia, S.C. where she met the love of her life the late, Levester Spann. During their union of 54 years, they raised four children, Lindsay, Darren, Keith and Sabrina. Dot was a stay-at-home mom who took special pride in raising her beloved children. She was also a very loving and caring person who was always caring for her family and friends in any way she could. And she was known for excepting any and every one into her home and her heart. Especially children, they always had a special place in her heart. And she also enjoyed her telephone, plants, cats, watching family feud, bold and the beautiful, local news and girl’s gamecock basketball games. Our family has lost a Precious Jewel. To know Dot was to love her.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Eugene, James "Jake", Sylvester and Gerald; one sister: Ruth Herticene Tucker and an adopted son Marcus Kennedy

Cherishing her memories are three sons, Lindsay (Sandra) Bolton, Darren (Blondie) Spann, Keith (Carmen) Spann and  daughter, Sabrina Spann; one granddaughter who was reared in the home, Keimari Spann; an adopted daughter Fermeiko Kennedy; fifteen  grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four brothers: Freddie (Barbara)Tucker, Bobby (Stella) Tucker, Kent (Lovella) Tucker and Ralph (Sandra)Tucker; two  sisters: Patricia Tucker and JoSandra Tucker and two sisters-in law, Ida Tucker and Patricia Javis; two brothers in law, George (Cynthia) Watkins and Curtis (Phyllis) Ashford and her caregiver for a short time Rebecca Johnson. And a host of loving family and friends who will miss her dearly.
