Dorothy M. Dix was born June 30, 1939, in Mayesville, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Inez Vaughn and Joseph English. She departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Dorothy was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age she met the love of her live, Wilbert Dix. They were married in 1954 and shared sixty-eight (68) years together before he went home to be with the Lord in 2022, and the births of five children.
Mrs. Dix was a member of The Greater St. Luke Baptist Church.
Dorothy’s favorite pastime was working in her yard, playing BINGO, and cooking, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, and she never met a stranger. Though she is no longer physically with us, she has left a legacy of love and devotion to all those who loved and knew her.
In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Curtis Dix, Sr.; brothers, Cornelius Thompson, and James Thompson; and sister, Ethel Gilmore.
Those who are forever cherishing fond and precious memories of Dorothy are her loving daughters, Pertina Gail Dix, Jannifer Dix, and Dianna (Michael) Brown, all of Columbia, SC; son, Wilbert Dix, Jr. of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, William Dix, Corrina Ashley Dix, Renee Dix, Curtis (Tabitha) Dix, Jr., Timothy Braggs, Kerwin Dix and Davon Wilson; ten (10) great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her, but rejoice that she is now resting with the Lord.
