Dorothy (Perkins) Martin was born July 4,1927 in Hopkins, S.C. to the late Ben Perkins and Janie Sumter. She passed away Thursday Feb. 11, 2021 in Irmo, SC.
Dorothy attended Booker T. Washington High School. On July 1, 1947 Dorothy married the late Len Martin Jr. Dorothy Martin was a loving mother of five children. She loved to dance while listening to her favorite artist such as Marvin Gaye, The Mississippi Choir and B.B King. She loved everyone especially children, taking care of them was her specialty. She loved watching Andy Griffith, Heat of the Night as well as the Price is Right. She loved riding and spending time with her family.
Dorothy was a cook at Carver Lion Elementary. She also worked as a Custodial Worker III at CM Tucker where she retired in 1995. She was a strong member at Ridgewood Baptist Church and later joined First Nazareth Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her sons David (Buddy) Monroe Martin and Stephen (Spankey) Martin.
Dorothy Martin is survived by her son Jackie Leroy Martin, daughter Janice Martin, son Tony Bennie Martin (Cynthia Johnson), daughter in law Cynthia Martin; special friend, Joseph C. Harrison; god-daughter Rachel Harris; 13 grandchildren, Kendra D. Martin (Sean Molbey), Tawanna T. Morant (John Morant), Stephanie W. Ybarra (Carlos Ybarra) Yolanda Walker, Danielle L. Harrison (Flora Hill-Harrison), Nicholas J. Harrison, Jasmine Martin, Demetrius Moore, Jackie Martin, Myron Dickey, Jared Dickey, Janae Dickey, Elijah (Papa) Jenkins; 15 great-grandchildren, Shaina J. Martin, David M. Martin III, Aaliyah S. Singleton, Isaiah L. Holiday, Dre Williams, Monte Martin, Carlos Ybarra, Ka’Mya M. Harrison, Krystina M. Hill, Alex Hill, Ty’Jon Harrison, Alicia D. Morant, Kennedy Morant, Jonathan Morant, David Walker and a host of many other loving family and caring friends. A special Thank you to Margarita Brisster. Dorothy Martin will be missed.
