Dorothy Grant

On Sunday, February 3, 2019, Dorothy Mae Carter Grant, daughter of the late William and Eliza Carter entered into eternal rest.  

She was born on May 13, 1927 in Eastover, SC. After the passing of her parents, she moved to Columbia.  She attended public schools in Richland County.  She graduated from cosmetology school and worked as a beautician.  

She was a faithful member of Jones Memorial A. M .E. Zion Church until she moved to Goose Creek, SC and attended Moncks Corner AME Church.

She was a beautiful and caring person who touched many lives.  Before there was a woman’s shelter, there was Dorothy’s house.  Many stayed with her until their circumstances improved. She was a substitute mother to many.

She was a great cook. She enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, quilting and crocheting.  She loved doing word search and fill in puzzles as well as jigsaw puzzles.  She was an avid bingo player. She loved flowers and plants and had a green thumb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all six of her siblings and a daughter, Lola Cowans.

Loving memories will be cherished by her children: Cynthia Grant of Columbia, SC, Melvenia Jones of Washington, DC, Wallis Ann Grant of Columbia, SC, Andrena Kelly of Stone Mountain , Linda Nelson of Goose Creek, SC and Ricky (Stephanie) Nelson of Hopkins, SC; Six grand children, 8 great-grand children, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends
