Doris L. Guinyard Obituary

Doris Lyles Guinyard was born September 1, 1934, in Eastover, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Nathan and Marie Scott Lyles. She departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Doris graduated from C. A. Johnson High School in Columbia, SC. She entered LPN school in Philadelphia, PA, but decided to move back to Columbia and start a family.  Doris worked for Forest Hills Nursing Center in Columbia for over 20 years.  Once she left Forest Hills, she began working at CM Tucker Nursing Center, until she retired. Doris had a passion for working with the geriatric population; and she was a role model for the younger CNA’s that came into the field, and she was excellent at her profession.  Doris did not stop there, in her early 80’s, she volunteered as a Senior Companion for Senior Resources from 2012 until 2021, stopping only as her health declined.

At an early age, Mrs. Guinyard accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at what was then “Jones Chapel”, that was located on Sumter Street, and now Jones Memorial AME Zion Church.  Doris was a faithful and loving member of Jones Memorial where she deposited her time, talents, and gifts for over sixty (60) years.  Doris served on the following boards and organizations: Class Leader, Deaconess Board Ministry, Usher Board (from her teen years to present), Parent Body Missionary Society, Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, Secretary of the Bureau of Supply, Daughters of Varick, Lay Council, Jubilee Choir, Pastor’s Aid Board, Conference Worker, Senior on the Move for God, and Stewardess Board. She will be missed by all who know her.

Doris was also preceded in death by five sisters, Carrie Ashby, Nona Gant, Alice Anderson, Lena Reed, and Bertha Faust; two stepsisters, Ruth Dunlop and Jeanette Woodberry; one brother, Charley Lyles; and three stepbrothers, Van Lyles, Cadell Lyles, and Bravette Lyles.

Doris leaves to cherish precious memories, Jacqueline Richardson of Columbia, SC; Robert Anthony Guinyard of Columbia, SC; Vernon (Evette) Guinyard of Columbia, SC; Gary Eugene (Quincy) Guinyard Pugh of Blythewood, SC; Andrena (Willie) McDaniel of Columbia, SC; one sister, Janie Lyles of Mullins, SC; one brother, James Roland (Carrie) Lyles of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Nannie Ruth Lyles; seventeen (17) grandchildren; sixteen (16) great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom rejoice that she is now with the Lord.
