Our beloved sister Doris Ann Harris was born on August 31, 1950, in Eastover, South Carolina, to the late Ed and Louise Powell Harris. As one of God’s servants, she peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home and eternal resting place on Monday, May 25, 2026, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Despite facing a lifelong disability Doris approached life with strength and an infectious smile that could light up any room. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and had a profound love for music. She also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling and spending time with her family. Her greatest joy was the lifelong love she shared with her siblings. Doris loved her nieces and nephews where laughter came easy and memories were made without effort. She especially looked forward to her yearly travel with her nephew Dennis and her weekly laughter with her niece Darlene. Her zest for life and remarkable resilience taught all who knew her the true meaning of strength.
Above all, Doris loved the Lord! She was baptized and joined Shiloh AME Church attending faithfully before her health decline. Her life was a powerful reflection of her faith in God, and she did not mind giving Him the praise. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that Doris’ earthly labor is complete. She is now resting peacefully in the presence of our Lord and Savior and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord” Matthew 25:21
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ed; and Louise Powell Harris; her sisters, Eliza (George) Nixon and Ozella (Joseph) Nathan; her brother in-law Willie E. Gunter Sr; sister in-law Willie Maree Harris; and an incredibly special aunt, Nellie Gay Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her fond and precious memories her loving and devoted siblings, Loretta Gunter, Edna Gray and Katherine (Wilbert) Harris Jordan of Eastover, South Carolina; brothers Ulysses Harris of Carson, California and Odell (Doris) Harris of Eastover, South Carolina. She is also survived by her aunt, Carolyn Brunson, Augusta, Georgia; and a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives, all of whom will dearly miss her.
Doris lived her life on her own terms and leaves behind a legacy of love and lasting sibling bonds. Her life was one of unwavering faith. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
