Doretta B. Williams

Mrs. Doretta Barber Williams was a lifelong resident of Columbia, South Carolina.  Doretta was born on November 5, 1946 to the late Deacon Charlie Barber Jr. and Ms. Gladys Mae Bowie Parks.  Doretta went from labor to reward on Saturday, November 13, 2021. She was and always will be immensely treasured.

During her formative years, Doretta received her education through the public schools of Richland County District One.   Post graduating from C. A. Johnson High School, Doretta went on to attend Benedict College.  Doretta was employed by the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and she also worked as an Independent Caregiver. 

In addition to her parents, Doretta was preceded in death by her mother, Luvenia Ellis Barber, her brother Charles Barber, and four sisters, Emily Ellis Gantt, Wilhelmenia Delores Ellis Young, Barbra Ellis Baxter and Libby Jean Ellis. 

Doretta Barber Williams is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy Williams and one son who she adored, Luther Jones Jr.  Her legacy will forever be celebrated by three granddaughters, Tanesha Jones, Chittiqua Jones and Noah Jones; four great grandchildren, Ahmir Jones, Loriel Jones, Bella Odom and Chanel Odom; a sister Elnora Ellis Mack; two brothers, Stanley Barber and Rev. Willie (Ernestine) Ellis Jr.  She also leaves many loving cousins, nephews, nieces, and her beloved caregiver, Deborah Rodgers. 

We will miss Doretta dearly, but we are so grateful for the time we had to spend with her. We will always feel her presence in our hearts.
