Dishon Deaundre Kinney Obituary

“I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also…”  John 14:2

In the early stages of his young adult life, Dishon Deaundre Kinney transitioned from his earthly existence to his heavenly home on May 3, 2021. He was born to Wanda Scott-Kinney and the late Davis Kinney, Jr. of Eastover, South Carolina. Throughout Dishon’s life, he was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy.

Dishon was educated in both the private and public schools of Richland County and is a 2020 honor graduate of Lower Richland High School, Hopkins, South Carolina. Through Richland School District One Career and Technology Education Program (CATE) , Dishon was a Project Lead the Way Completer. He was currently enrolled as a student at Midlands Technical College, Columbia, South Carolina pursuing an Associate Degree in HVAC/R.  He always put forth his very best effort in all undertakings and strived for success.

Dishon was affiliated with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Eastover, South Carolina all of his life.  He was a former member of the youth usher board and youth department and an active Sunday school member. He also attended Bible Way Church of Atlas Road with his family.

He was known for his athletic abilities and had a passion for the game of basketball and football which he developed as a little boy playing Recreational, Pop Warner and AAU Basketball in the surrounding community. He also excelled as an athlete during his middle school years. He went on to play Junior Varsity, Varsity Football and Basketball at Lower Richland High School where he lettered in both sports. He always in his soft and quiet demeanor showed respect for the game, his coaches, teammates and the competition striving to make a positive impact. As quoted by one of his favorite coaches, Coach David Dawson of the Capital City Vipers, “Dishon showcased maturity and accountability at an early age in life. He showed responsibility like a true young man. I can truly say he did the most.”

His hobbies included playing on his PS5 game, making beats; writing rhymes, watching cartoons and going to the gym.  He treasured his collection of Air Jordans and aspired to travel the world. Dishon had a special love and care for his two dogs, “Peaches” and “Bubba”.

Dishon is survived by his mother, Wanda Scott-Kinney of Eastover, South Carolina; one brother Donavon Davis Kinney of Eastover, South Carolina; three sisters, Mrs. Theresa (Dewayne) Gordon of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Vanessa (Davey) Melesio of Port Richey, Florida;  and Ms. Cierra Kinney of Columbia, South Carolina; his maternal uncles, William (Linda) Scott, Karl Scott and Norman Scott of Eastover, South Carolina;  James (Sally) Sumpter of Hopkins, SC and Marion Scott of Bronx, New York; aunts, Loretta Scott of Eastover, South Carolina and Gloria Portwine of Columbia, SC;  paternal uncles, Clarence Ward, Jr. and Ernest Alexander of Houston, Texas;  special friends, Mr. Clarence Eleazer of Columbia, SC and Miss Jaquala Wilson of Eastover, South Carolina; his godmother, Mrs. Patricia Jackson of Columbia, South Carolina; close friends, his boys, some he would jokingly call his sons…Monte (Travis), Fred, Antonio, Dashawn, Jovaugn, Brandon, Jahari, Jeremiah  and Corey and a host of cousins, other loving relatives and friends, all whom will miss him dearly.
