Diann Chappell Williams Obituary

With hearts both heavy and full of gratitude, we celebrate the life of Diann Chappell William, who peacefully transitioned into God’s eternal embrace on Monday, January 23, 2026, at the age of 64. A lifelong daughter of Columbia, South Carolina, Diann’s journey began on April 2, 1961, born into the loving home of the late Henry and Mamie L. Smith.

Diann was the vibrant heart of a large, spirited family. She grew up alongside her four brothers—Anthony Smith, John H. Smith (Sonja), Leslie Smith, and Danny Smith—and her sisters, Rose Smith and the late Latonya Smith. Together, they shared a lifetime of memories rooted in their Columbia home, a bond that remained unbroken through the years.

Educated in the Richland County School District One, Diann attended A. C. Flora High School. She had a zest for life that was infectious, and a joyful spirit towards those she loved. Diann was a woman who loved the rhythm of dance and found joy in the kitchen. She enjoyed traveling, with a special love for the beach.

Above all, Diann’s greatest masterpiece was the love she poured into her children. She was a fiercely devoted mother to Larry Benjamin Chappell, her light lives on through her son Terrence William, and she now holds a place of eternal peace alongside her late son, Kervin Lamont William. Her role as a mother extended beyond her own home, as she was a source of warmth for her family. Her memory will be cherished by a dear uncle, Herbert Battle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Diann lived her life with a quiet strength and playful wit. She was a daughter who honored her parents, a sister who stood by her siblings, and a friend who never failed to offer a smile. Though she has stepped out of our sight, the warmth of her touch and the echo of her laughter will remain a permanent part of the lives of everyone she reached.

She has finished her course, she has kept the faith, and she is now enjoying the peace of eternal rest.
