Deaconess Dessie Scott, the daughter of the late James Golden and Adell Murray, was born in North, South Carolina on February 28, 1937. She departed this earthly home on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. She was 83.
Deaconess Scott attended Carver Middle School and Booker T. Washington High School in Columbia, South Carolina. She married the love of her life, Deacon Colie Scott on January 20, 1953. The couple moved to Brooklyn, New York where she was employed as a floor supervisor for D. Glasgow and Sons until her retirement in 1989. After retiring, she devoted her time to babysitting her grandchildren and helping out at the Hanson Place Central United Methodist Church in Brooklyn.
In 1996, the two moved back to Columbia, South Carolina where she rededicated her life to Christ at First Nazareth Baptist Church. She was an Usher, served with the Food Pantry, and proudly stood at the side of her husband as a Deaconess.
She was the mother that loved her children’s friends as much as her own. While she was blessed with three children of her own, she inherited many more.
At Heaven’s gate, awaiting her with open arms are: her husband of sixty-two years; her mom and dad; her daughter, Janice Scott; her son, Colie Scott Jr.; and her sister, Ezell Hopkins.
Her precious memories are meant to be carried on by her daughter, Shawana (Dave) Jones of Columbia, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Carrie Scott; son-in-law, Kehinde Kpeji; ten grandchildren, Terriko (Demar) Heslop, Stephanie (Jonathan) Forehand, Anthony (Jamie) Scott, Ekugbe Kpeji, Alexander Mitchell, Ariana Mitchell, Aidan Mitchell, DJ Jones, Dallas Jones, and Deryn Jones; six great-grandchildren, Isaiah Forehand, Timothy Forehand, Colie Jarrell Scott, Quinton Scott, Ayana Scott and Jarrell Colie Scott; a sister-in-law, Nellie (Nathaniel) McKelvin of Columbia, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews and other caring friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
