Deborah L. Cook, 57 years of age, was born on November 6, 1962 in New York. She was the youngest daughter of Mathew Cook and the late Myrna Plaskett. Deborah was called home on October 8, 2020 at her residence in Columbia, SC.
Coming from a large family, Deborah grew up in Bronx, NY, with one older brother, six uncles, and one aunt. There was never a dull moment with Deborah. Growing up, she was extremely active, whether it was playing sports, exploring the city with friends, or organizing parties during the early days of hip hop. Whatever scene Deborah was on, she had the type of soul that would draw you into her orbit.
Immediately after completing her studies at Monroe High School, Deborah immersed herself into the blue-collar workforce beginning her career at: Hess Corporation in St. Croix; transitioning to working for Metro-North Railroad in New York; managing a restaurant and a woman’s clothing department in South Carolina; and concluding her career working for Time Warner Cable in South Carolina.
A proud member of Grace Heritage Ministries, Deborah found solace in participating in various church-related outreach programs such as supporting Resortation803, where she fed the hungry and homeless. Deborah volunteered for Hospice, visiting the sick, and through her own initiative, Deborah spearheaded a sock drive for the less fortunate.
Deborah Cook is preceded in death by her late grandparents, Inez and Ulric Plaskett, and her late mother Myrna Plaskett.
Deborah Cook leaves behind an older brother Troy Cook, Sr; two nieces; three nephews; eight grand-nieces; four grand-nephews; two god-daughters; a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.
