Deborah Black Obituary

Deborah Louise Black, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina, at the age of seventy-two. Born on August 9, 1952, in Washington, D.C., she was the cherished daughter of the late Samuel and Georgia Mae Wilson.

Her life was defined by service. Deborah worked for over two decades with the Columbia Housing Authority, Target, and UPS, and shared her passion for education as a substitute teacher at Columbia High School.

As a faithful member of Chappelle Memorial A.M.E. Church, Deborah actively participated in the Missionary Society and uplifted the congregation with her voice in the gospel choir. She took immense pride in sisterhood through her membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Deborah had a zest for life—she loved cooking, baking, bowling, working out, and helping others in every way she could. She was celebrated for her unwavering strength, steadfast morals, tireless work ethic, and outspoken spirit—qualities that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Black Jr.; and brothers, Stanley Wilson and Leonard Bradley.

Deborah leaves behind a loving legacy of family and community to her loving sons, Carl Cearl Black III and Michael Darrell Black; caring stepdaughter, Nicolette McCaster; loving sisters, Marsha Wilson and Gwenevere (Eugene) Benjamin; honorary sister, Lynette Washington and Barbara Garrett; precious grandchildren, Zyon Black, Zaniyah Black, Major Black, Khyro Black, Mi’Angel Black, Makayla Black, Toddrick Seibles, and Tanichia Carson‑Oree; honorary grandchildren, Asia McCoy, Khloe Smith, Nova‑Reign Smith, Aniyah Williams, and Amyrah Bamberg; special niece, Nikkiea (Binky) Wilson, along with a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

Deborah’s memory will continue to inspire through her love, conviction, and community spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all those who loved and knew her, and whose lives she so lovingly touched.
