Deaconess (Henri) Ruth Threatt Jordan was born in Pageland, South Carolina on June 23, 1935, the beloved daughter of the late Henry Norman and Mary Butler Threatt. She entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.
Ruth attended the public schools in Pageland and graduated from Petersburg High School. She furthered her education at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical College (NC A&T) in Greensboro, NC and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
Ruth met James Jordan through his cousin Sebern Jordan, who was married to her sister, Doreatha and after a few years of courtship, they were married on July 22, 1965, at Ruth’s parents’ home. James was enlisted in the US Army, and they were an Army Family for fifteen years and were blessed with two children, Anna Venetta Hines and Tenita Jordan Dreher. Ruth held various positions throughout her career, including school secretary, bookkeeper with the military and taught business classes to military personnel. She retired from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health in Columbia, SC. After retirement, she took a position with Saint John Preschool.
After James retired from the military at Fort Jackson and made their home here in Columbia, they joined Saint John Baptist Church in 1972. During her tenure she was a very active member of the church. Ruth served as the President of the Deaconess Board, held various positions on the Usher Board, member of the Gospel Choir, served as a Family Ministry Unit Coordinator, a dedicated Sunday School Teacher and faithful member of the Fannie Mae Jones Missionary Circle. Ruth is a former member of Roosevelt Chapter #270 Order of the Eastern Star, Al Bahr Court #168 Daughters, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
Ruth loved to spend time with her family and especially her Sisters. They had many memories of traveling together over the years. She will forever be remembered as a cheerful and loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and Friend.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was also proceeded in death by her daughter, Tenita Jordan Dreher; three sisters, Johnsie Threatt, Queen Ingram, and Beulah Louallen.
She Leaves to cherish loving memories her devoted husband of 57 years, Deacon James (Jimmy) Nathaniel Jordan; adopted daughter/granddaughter, Jhena Nightengale of the home; daughter, Anna Hines (Ben) of Bowie, Maryland; four (4) grandchildren, Bennie Hines II, Shaunte’, Alicia, and Monique; two (2) sisters, Doreatha T. Jordan and Pansy T. Evans of Pageland, SC; a sister-in-law, Louise Maske of Philadelphia, PA; a very special niece and loving caregiver, Wanda E. Turner, eight (8) great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
