Deacon Wilbur Gordon, Sr., affectionately known as “Willie” and “Wild Bill,” was born on April 3, 1935, to the late Lonnie and Julia (Mathis) Gordon in Edgefield, South Carolina. He was the fifth of their children and received his education through the Edgefield County Public Schools Adult Education Program.
