David Wilson Lawrence, Sr. was born on August 11, 1952, the second child of Wilson and Dorothy Lowrance of Spartanburg, South Carolina. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage while facing life challenges with the upmost positivity. Despite the pain, David relied on family and faith - throughout it all staying strong. Because he found that solace, he peacefully departed this earthly life on the morning of Friday, April 29, 2022, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, in Columbia, South Carolina.
David was educated in the Spartanburg County School system. After graduating from Carver High School in 1970, he chased his dreams to become a history teacher. He pivoted his education focus towards the computer engineering field once accepted to the HBCU, Knoxville College, Knoxville, TN. While there, he was inducted into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporate, a prestigious society of men that taught him to become an upstanding contributor to his community.
David proudly served during the Vietnam War as a United States Army Specialist 5. In the military, he was exposed to an array of different people, their cultures and established an understanding for his fellow man. During a stay in Brussels, Belgium, he decided to be baptized, continuing to grow his faith in Jehovah God. Once he returned to The United States, he was offered a position with General Electric. He then relocated to Columbia, SC, where he put down family roots, and raised his four children.
David was a great philosopher who used quality time with his family to share his wisdom and worldly knowledge. In his spare time, he was an avid music lover, bowler, travel enthusiast and was passionate about the world around him.
Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories of him are his four loving children, David Lawrence Jr., Kimberly Lawrence, Nadia (Anthony) Lawrence-Wages, Ashley (Benjamin) Lawrence-Arrowood; his loving and caring parents, Wilson and Dorothy Lowrance; his loving sisters, Wretha Jean Lowrance-Miles and Jermelia (Goldie) Lawrence Stevens; grandchildren, Deandre Robinson, Avril Lawrence, Shiloh Lawrence and Ian Arrowood; great-grandchildren, Eden Lawrence, Cyann Robinson, Jordan Roberts and Dre’Shaun Robinson; also a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and dear friends that will miss him dearly.
