Our beloved husband, father, paw paw, brother, uncle, and friend, David D. Foster, entered eternal rest on July 22, 2025. David was born on April 26, 1954, in Northfork, West Virginia,
He was united in marriage to his devoted wife, Barbara Foster, with whom he shared 45 beautiful years. He graduated from Northfork High School and later earned an associate degree in nursing from Luzerne County Community College in Pennsylvania.
A proud patriot, David served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps and later in the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1972. After completing his military service, he returned home to serve as a police officer in Kimball and Northfork, WV, before embarking on a career in nursing. He retired from the VA Medical Center in Beckley, West Virginia
David and Barbara made their home in Beckley, WV, for four decades, where he was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. In 2021, they relocated to Elgin, South Carolina.
David was a loyal Mason, serving as District Deputy Past Grand Master of King Hiram Abiff #25 in Beckley, WV, and was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in both West Virginia and South Carolina.
He loved family gatherings, motorcycles, Cadillacs, and music, with his favorite artist being Charlie Wilson. David was a very loving and giving man who never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Foster; mother-in-law, June Grimes; brothers, Alex Foster and Robert “Sugarpop” Foster; grandfather, William Brown Sr.; grandmother, Georgie A. Foster; great-grandmother, Sarah Jane Foster, and grandson James Foster. David was superseded in death by his brother, Charles “Chuckie” Simmons.
David is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Foster of Elgin, SC; his children, Alania Foster of Washington, DC, Ami Foster of GA, Ladonna Foster of Charleston, WV, and Christopher John (Stephanie) of West Orange, NJ; brothers, William Foster (Amelia) of Christiansburg, VA and Ronald Foster of Columbus, OH; sisters, Latonia “Georgie” Foster of Northfork, WV, Trina Foster and Toyna Foster both of Columbus, OH; grandmother, Cora Brown of Pontiac, MI; grandchildren, Shanton Foster, Najada Foster, Markale Foster, Cameron Foster, Delea Foster, Markeisha Terry, Jervon Terry, Mondrell Foster, Christopher John Jr., Kylel John, and Alexis Motley. He also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren, beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and dear friends, all of whom will miss David dearly.
Special friends who held a meaningful place in his heart include John Burnette, Victor Durgan, Keith Harrison, and James Fowlkes.
