Darryl I. Green

Darryl Hicks Green was born August 28, 1957, in Bushnell, Florida, the son of Isaac Whitaker and the late Marjorie Holmes. He was raised in Webster, Florida by his grandparents, the late Calvin & Polly Green.

He attended and graduated from South Sumter High School in Bushnell, Florida, in the Class of 1976. During his time at South Sumter High School, he played basketball and acquired the nickname "Lil Calvin."  He was loved and favored by teachers and fellow students.

Darryl was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness in July, 1974 where he attended the Bushnell, Florida Congregation. He started working at Walt Disney World at the age of sixteen, where he held the position of host for approximately 23 years.

On March 26, 1977, he married his first and only love, Gwendolyn Pierce-Hicks. In 1998, he relocated to Columbia, SC where he worked and retired from Lizard Thicket Restaurant. Darryl and Gwen adopted and raised (3) beautiful children: Kelley Finkley, Brandon Williams (deceased) and Ashton King.

Darryl was truly kind, loving, compassionate, friendly, humble, loyal and would give his last to his friends and family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and his family immensely. He was the glue that kept the family together. He was devastated when he lost his only son and was still grieving up until his passing.

He leaves to morn his passing his loving wife Gwen; daughters, Kelley & Ashton; father, Isaac Whitaker; sisters, Wanda, Bridgette (George), and Diedra (King); brothers, Irwin, Patrick (Tomika), Rechard (Faith) and Todd; aunts, Mercina and Geneva; uncle, Lorenzo; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins & friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
