Charles Allen Washington, a cherished and compassionate son, father, brother, and uncle, passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2026. Though he is no longer with us in person, his memory and spirit will remain forever in our hearts and minds.
Charles’s spiritual journey began at an early age when he accepted Christ at Saint Matthew Baptist Church in Sumter, South Carolina. He was a proud graduate of Sumter High School’s Class of 1988. Following graduation, he began his career in welding with Diebold Manufacturing Operations, where he continued his dedicated work through its transition to Porter’s Fabrication.
He was a welder one who understands something many never fully see that what holds things together is often hidden. The strongest bonds aren’t always the most visible, but they’re the ones that carry the weight, that endure pressure, time, and strain. That was the kind of person we’re remembering today. Someone who didn’t need to stand in the spotlight to make a lasting impact, because the work he did and the way he lived spoke for itself. His life was built with steady hands, sharp eyes, and a quiet kind of strength. We recognize a legacy. One not of grand gestures, but of consistency, integrity, and the kind of work that holds things together long after the moment has passed. He remained there until the company’s closure in 2023, after which he relocated to Savannah, Georgia to begin a new chapter.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie Washington, and his brother Keith Myron Scarborough.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Susan Scarborough of Sumter, SC, his son Dominic Washington of Sumter, SC, a grandson, Kannon Washington of Sumter, SC, sisters, Linda(Duane) Sanders of Vancleave, MS, Joyce(Allen) Brown of Savannah, GA, Charlina(Hazel) Lewis of Columbia, SC, Denease (James) Wilson, Sumter, SC, brothers, Floyd Scarborough, of Savannah, GA, Charles Booker of Brooklyn, NY, as well as a special sister/cousin, Yolonda Spann of Sumter, SC. Additionally, he leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who were touched by his kindness.
Charles's legacy is not only in what he accomplished, but in how he made people feel—valued, supported, and loved. Though he is no longer physically present, the impact of his life remains deeply rooted in the hearts of his family and friends. His devotion, his spirit, and his love will continue to guide and inspire for generations to come.
