Mr. Charles Timothy Johnson was born in Jersey City NJ to Charles Manuel Johnson and the late Esther Louise Johnson on January 1, 1970. He departed this earthly life on April 1, 2020, in Irmo, South Carolina.
“Timmy” as he was affectionately known by his family and friends attended Jersey City public schools in Jersey City, New Jersey graduating from Snyder High School. After high school, Timmy attended Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. He was a railroad construction worker for a number of years; thereafter, he became an Entrepreneur.
Timmy was a family man. He enjoyed spending quality time with his children, sharing and trading stories with his children and others about growing up with his siblings in Jersey City, NJ. He had a passion for his siblings, his childhood and a story for each of them that was filled with love and laughter. His laugh was very unique and infectious. He loved watching boxing with his sons and collecting cars. He also loved watching football with his brother and nephew exchanging banter back and forth. He was known for giving his children and grandchildren nicknames as a term of endearment. Ashley, his “Apple Pie, Nasser, “Solomon Grundy”, Nyle, “Lady Bugg” and “Beauty”, Nigel, “Biggie Bing”, Nature, “Amigo”, Nyier, “Nonito” and Nykei, “Snoop”. His children look up to him and when he entered a room they was energized and enlightened by his presence. He referred to himself as a truth teller when talking with his children. He often quoted his favorite scripture, Matthew 12:34, “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh”. He believed in being honest with his children in all things. He taught his children to be slow to speak and quick to listen. He brought a lot of laughter to his family. He will be sorely missed and always remembered by his children and family.
Timmy was proceeded in death by his mother Esther Louise Johnson, his sisters, Derell Johnson and Charlesetta Johnson.
Timmy leaves to mourn his passing and cherish the memories his wife Matilta Johnson of Columbia, SC. Three sons, Charles Nasser-Ali Johnson, Nigel Rakhim Johnson and Nature Nekhi Johnson of Columbia, SC. Two daughters, Ashley Nicole Freeman of Winnsboro, SC and Nyle Symone Johnson of Columbia, SC. His father, Charles Manuel Johnson of Columbia, SC. Four brothers, William (Ruthy) Johnson of Jersey City, NJ, Tracy Johnson of Hampton, SC, Kevin Johnson and Nehemiah Johnson of Jersey City, NJ. One sister, Paulette Grant of Columbia, SC. He also leaves to mourn his passing two grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
