Charles Jones or “Sir Charles” was born on February 17, 1954, in Columbia, South Carolina, the fifth child of nine children born to the late James Henry, Sr. and Edith Lewis Jones. Charles departed this life on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Charles was educated in the public schools of Richland County and was a 1974 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Charles also served in the United States Army for 12 years. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he was employed with Tyler Construction Company for many years.
Though he is no longer physically with us, he has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry, Sr. and Edith Jones; a sister, Marietta Guy; his brothers, James (Tub) Jones, Jr., Benjamin Jones, and Melvin Jones, and Phillip Jones.
Charles leaves behind his children, Jermaine Bethel, Alexander Jones of Charlotte, NC, Ebony Jones, Charles Jr., and Antonio Bethel; his significant other, Barbara Jean Bethel; sisters, Betty Ann Jones and Patricia Yvonne Jones of Columbia, SC; brother, Calvin Jones of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Valerie Jones of Columbia, SC; his grandchildren, Demeatrius Bryant, Jermaine Bethel, Jr., Donavon Spence, London Smith, Laila Smith, Leilani Jones, Lavanni Jones; great grandchildren, Jalen Bryant, Jahlil Hunt, and Kyrie Bethel; nieces, Monica Jones, Stephanie Jones-McCray, Tometra (Meek) Jones, of Columbia, SC; Michelle (Jeremy) Hall of Sulphur Springs, TX; and Shana (Shane) Jones of Santa Clarita, CA; nephews, Calvin (Kelli) McDaniel, Pedro Hayes, Odell Clark, Jr., Xavier Clark, Debris Duggans of Columbia, SC; a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other loving relative and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
