Saint Catherine Perry Myers, affectionately known as “Cat,” was born on June 7, 1953, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Samuel James Perry and Phyllis Wearing Perry. She peacefully transitioned to being with her Heavenly Father on her 72nd birthday, June 7, 2025, completing a full circle of life where her loving children and family surrounded her.
Catherine graduated from C. A. Johnson High School in 1971. She devoted 30 years of faithful service to Richland County School District One, retiring as Building Coordinator. At W. J. Keenan High School and Carver-Lyon Elementary School, Catherine's dedication went far beyond her job description—she stood as a pillar of support to the faculty, staff, students, and, above all, the community she loved so deeply.
Saint Catherine Perry Myers was a lifelong member of the United House of Prayer for All People. She served on the Senior Escorts Auxiliary for forty-eight years, where forty-six of those years she served as President. Under her guidance, the Senior Escorts of Columbia Motherhouse were recognized as one of the top one hundred auxiliaries in the entire organization for three consecutive years. While in this role, she led the Senior Escorts to earn the distinction of being the number one recognized Senior Escorts Auxiliary in the state of South Carolina. Not only did she serve as President of the Senior Escorts for Columbia Motherhouse, but she also served as President of the Senior Escorts for the entire state of South Carolina—an honor and responsibility she carried with great humility and dedication.
Beyond her extraordinary leadership with the Senior Escorts, Saint Myers humbly and wholeheartedly served in numerous other capacities within the United House of Prayer for All People organization. She was a devoted member of three vital church committees—the Sick and Shut-In Committee, the Janitorial Committee, and the Mother’s Day Committee. Her gift for hospitality and service was especially evident in the cafeteria: she was the beloved Sunday School Cook, served as the cook for the Elite Warriors banquet for 15 years, and was also a cook for the General Council Committee during the annual Holy Convocation. She also held the role of Manager of the evening church cafeteria, where she faithfully ensured meals were served with excellence. For over 35 years, Saint Myers graciously housed delegates during the Holy Convocation, welcoming them with warmth, generosity, and grace. She was a faithful member of the South Carolina State Mass Choir, where she loved to lift her voice in total praise.
Saint Myers was married to the late Gilbert Myers, who preceded her in death in 2014.
Her love and legacy continue through her two sons, Morgan Donnell (Mary Ann) Perry, and Alexis James (Jacqueline) Perry, and her daughter, Carolyn LaShay Perry, all residing in Columbia, SC. She is survived by two loving and devoted sisters, Glendell Perry of Columbia, SC, and Martha Munn of Rock Hill, SC; and brothers, Adam (Jean) Perry of Alexandria, VA, and Eddie (Dirana) Perry of Newport News, VA; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, eleven nieces, and six nephews.
Among those who held a special place in her heart were her godchildren. Catherine shared an especially profound and maternal bond with her goddaughter, Melissa Reese of Columbia, SC. To her, Melissa was not simply a godchild but a daughter in every sense of the word, lovingly raised and cherished as her own. That love extended to Melissa’s daughter, whom Catherine cherished as an adopted granddaughter. Catherine also deeply loved her godson, Wallace Morris Jr. of Charlotte, NC, whose presence brought her joy and laughter. Catherine had a special love for her nephew, Anthony Perry of Suffolk, VA, whom she loved dearly and held close to her heart throughout her life; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will miss her deeply.
