Calvin L. James Obituary

Calvin Lawrence James was born April 7, 1968, in Columbia, South Carolina, the son of  Marion James and the late Verneal Mack James.  He passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia.

A gifted musician from an early age, Calvin attended Richland Northeast High School, where he was a member of the Silver Cadets marching band. He continued his musical journey at the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the marching band, and later graduated from Temple University.

Calvin was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, where he embraced the organization’s principles of leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and service. His commitment to community extended into his professional life, where he held various directorships within health organizations and clinics, dedicating himself to improving the well-being of others.

During his college years, Calvin’s love for music extended beyond the band field. He was known for DJing parties, bringing people together through music, energy, and joy—something he continued to enjoy throughout his life as a cherished hobby. He also performed with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum Corps, further shaping his musical excellence.

He was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend whose life was marked by a deep passion for music, service to others, and unwavering resilience.

Calvin was preceded in death by his mother, Verneal James.

He is lovingly survived by his son, Calvin Jeremiah James; daughter, Savannah James; his father, Marion T. James; brother, Steven James; sisters, Trina James, Kendra James, and Kerry James. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous aunts and uncles;  as well as Lakiesha Pringle, who stood faithfully by his side and supported him through his long bouts of illness with love and strength.

Calvin will be remembered for his creativity, his dedication to helping others, and the deep love he had for his family and music. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
