Brenda was born on September 24, 1972, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Willie L. (Bill) Ashford and the late Judy Mae Ashford, who raised her with love Strength, and unwavering support. Brenda gained her wings on February 3, 2026 in Columbia, South Carolina. From a young age, she displayed a vibrant spirit, a kind heart, and a natural ability to bring joy to those around her.
Whether it was her infectious laughter, her caring nature, or her ability to turn any moment into a cherished memory, she was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She attended Eau Claire High School, where she played the flute on the marching band. She also attended Mansfield Business College and Heritage Institute where she excelled academically and built lifelong friendships. She was a hardworking and ambitious individual. She pursued a career in retail management where her dedication and passion left a lasting impact on many people. She was deeply committed to her work, always striving to make a difference and leave a positive mark on everyone she met.
Beyond her professional achievements, Brenda was a woman of many passions. She found joy in line dancing, spending time with her kids and grandkids, and watching game shows. She was always eager to share her talents with those around her. Whether she was doing her grandkids hair, counseling couples, or dancing with her husband, she embraced every experience with enthusiasm and love. More than anything, Brenda was devoted to her family and friends. She cherished her relationships and was a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering support to those who needed her. Her love for her spouse children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends knew no bounds, and she took great pride in being a loyal wife, daughter, mom, grandma, sister, aunt god-mom, and friend.
Brenda is survived by her spouse; Ted (Shawn) Cook, her children; Tierra Ashford, Tony Cooper, Sanquinetta Stallworth (Michael), Destiny Thomas, and Brendan Manicault. Her step-children; Tedrick Smalls Tre'shon Cook, and Aliesha Cook. Her grandchildren: Dezira Green, Jacoby Drayton, Jurney Drayton, Janiyah Hippard, and Kameron Thomas. Her step-grandchildren; Miracle Smalls, Melodie Smalls, and Adonis Cook. Her siblings; Rosharon Ross, Shalonda Ashford, Julie Glasscho Nancy Green, and Sharon Robinson. Also, a host of loving aunts, uncles Cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Willie L. (Bill) Ashford and Judy Mae Ashford. Her grandparents: Javan Bolar, Eloise Bolar, Jesse James Ashford, and Elise Ashford. We take comfort in knowing they welcomed her with open arms. Although the pain of her loss is overwhelming, we find solace in the memories she left behind. Her spirit will live on in every shared story.
