Brenda D. Ladson-Woody Obituary

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Brenda Ladson Woody who peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, March 6, 2026.  While our hearts are saddened by her passing, we find comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of the Lord she loved and served so faithfully.

Brenda Delores Ladson Woody was born December 26, 1957,  in Queens, New York, the beloved daughter of the late Harold Eugene Ladson and Ida Mae Kelley Ladson. She was a devoted and faithful member of I. DeQuincey Newman United Methodist Church, where she loved worshiping the Lord and fellowshipping with her church family, under the leadership of Pastor Frank V. James. She faithfully served in several ministries within the church and was a founding member of Ladies of Wisdom, a ministry established in 1995 that encouraged faith, fellowship, and spiritual growth. She also served as the Church Secretary, a position she loved and cherished deeply. She was a God-fearing and trusting woman whose life was a shining example of faith, kindness, and compassion. Her relationship with the Lord guided her every step, and she never hesitated to share love, encouragement, and prayer with those around her. Her life was a true reflection of Christ’s love, and the impact she made on her church family and community will never be forgotten.

Brenda Ladson Woody was also a dedicated and hardworking professional who took great pride in the work she did throughout her life. She served faithfully as a Secretary with Richland County School District One, where she was known for her professionalism, kindness, and willingness to help others. Later, she worked with Nelson Mullins Law Firm as a Document Services Specialist, a role she held with great care and commitment until her health began to decline. In every position she held, Brenda brought diligence, integrity, pride, and a genuine love for serving others. She approached her work with the same compassion and dedication that defined every part of her life, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

She had a heart for people and a spirit of generosity that touched everyone she met. If someone were in need, she was the kind of person who would do everything in her power to help. Her kindness knew no limits, and her home and heart were always open. Family meant everything to her. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and took great pride in being a mother, grandmother “Hamma”, sister, and friend.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, Robert A. Woody Sr, of Huntersville, NC; two sons, Kristopher N. Ladson of Las Vegas, and Robert (Marquita) Woody Jr,  of Columbia, SC. Her greatest joy was being “Grandma” to her four beloved grandchildren, Marcel A. Patterson, Robert A. Woody III (Trey), Sienna B. Woody (SiSi), and Chance A. J. Woody, who brought her immeasurable joy. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Vera Ownes of New York, NY; and three brothers, Brian E. Ladson of Brooklyn, NY, Ilyas (Shelby) Muhammad of New York, NY, and Vandorn (Tracey) Ladson of Union, NJ, special cousin, Dorrell Mclaughlin; along with one nephew, Vandorn Demitrius Ladson, Jr. of New York, NY;  and one niece, Yashnal Ladson Charlotte, NC; her God sister, Valerie Jones;  two Godbrothers, Che’ Alexander and James Brown Jr. In addition, she leaves behind one Goddaughter, Amanda Cunningham, and one Godson, Rashawn;  adopted sons, who held a special place in her heart, Russell (Brandi) Robbins, Sandy Thomas, Donta (Kenya) Cooper, and Joseph Terell Faust, all of Columbia, SC; and  her circle of special sisters in Christ who walked with her in faith, prayer, and friendship, Dr. Julia Boyd, Ms. Valeria Haynes, Mrs. Angie King, Mrs. Diane Marion, Mrs. Cheryl Miller, Mrs. Diane James, Mrs. Pat Newman and Mrs. Dorothy Tyson, all of Columbia, SC. She also leaves a devoted church family at I. DeQuincey Newman United Methodist Church, and a host of loving relatives and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Those who knew her will remember her beautiful spirit, her generous heart,  and the love she poured into her family and friends. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and service will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
