Bobby Richard Herrin was born in Columbia South Carolina on July 4, 1941, the son of the late Sallie Bostick Hayes. He went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Bobby attended Benjamin Franklin High School in Manhattan, New York where he excelled in basketball. After he graduated from High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a part of the Military Police and was also a member of the Army Basketball Team. During his tenure in the military, he received many awards including, the Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Meal, to name a few. He retired and received an Honorable Discharge, having served our country, and achieved the rank of Seargeant First Class.
After his retirement from the army, he worked as a Correctional Officer with the South Carolina Department of Correction from which he also retired after many years of dedicated service.
During his retirement he enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He also loved helping others.
In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Alfred Hayes I; a sister, Inez Phelps; and brother, Silas Bostick.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Veronica Archie Barnett; two brothers, Alfred Hayes, II and Randy Bostick; sister, Teresa Bostick Hardrick; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Bostick and Hope Hayes; three first cousins, Mildred Felder, Roxanne Mitchell, and Alex Thompson; eight nieces, Latonya Hayes, Antionette Rainey, Rose Royce Hayes, Bridgette Honor, Ashley Hardrick, Demetria Hardrick, Johnsey Winn, and Gabrielle Bostick; three nephews, Jemal Hayes, Tyrone Phelps, and Alfred Hayes, III; and a host of other relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
