Mr. Bobby Earl Payton was born November 12, 1963, in McCormick, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late James Earl and Maggie Sue Perrin Payton. He departed this life at the age of sixty-one (61) on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, peacefully at his childhood home at 404 Rosevelt Street McCormick, South Carolina.
Bobby was educated in the public schools of McCormick County and was a 1982 graduate of McCormick High School. Upon graduating high school, he entered the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class while stationed at Fort Lee Army Base in Virigina. During his tenure in the Army, he received several commendations. He went on to work for the United States Department of the Interior as a Lieutenant/Armed Special Police Officer for AKAL Coastal International Security for several years. While in Virigina he received his Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts from Stratford University. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge he became the primary caregiver for his late mother.
Bobby joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church at an early age, and he often attended the Bunton Memorial CME Church in Washington, DC.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Ms. Hazel Payton; brother, Mr. James R. Perrin; his late maternal grandparents, Mr. George Perrin and Ms. Alma Perrin; paternal grandparents, Ms. Ada A. Lewis and Mr. Easton Payton; seven uncles, Mr. Calvin Perrin, Mr. Willie Joe Perrin, Sr., Mr. David Perrin, Mr. John Thomas Perrin, Mr. Roosevelt Perrin, Mr. George Freeman and Mr. Claude Leverette; brother-in-law, Mr. Arthur Adams; and niece, Ms. Brenda Adams.
He is survived by his son, Demetrius J. Banks, Sr.; grandson, Demetrius J. Banks, Jr; mother of grandson, Nicole Gross; all of Riverdale, MD; four sisters, Ms. Linda S. Adams of McCormick, SC, Ms. Diane J. (John) Payton of Capital Heights, MD, Ms. Bettye (Derek) Polly of McCormick, SC, and Dr. Gail (Patrick) Fuller of Accokeek, MD; two brothers, Mr. Robert O. Payton of Dortmund, Germany and Mr. Andrew (Eula) Payton of Greenwood, SC; four aunts, Ms. Classie P. Freeman of Washington, DC, Ms. Hettie L. Leverette of Detroit, MI, Ms. Virgina Sibert of Washington, DC, Ms. Barbara Perrin of Clinton, MD; one uncle, Mr. Willie (Janie) Franklin of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many treasured friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
