Betty Jean Payton Polly was born October 1, 1962, in McCormick, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Mr. James Earl and Maggie Sue Payton. She departed this life at the age of sixty-three (63) on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Betty was educated in the public schools of McCormick County and graduated from McCormick High School in 1980. Upon graduation, she worked for Mount Vernon Mills, formerly known as Reigel Textile Plant for over 30 years. Betty also worked as a Home-health aide for many years. She married the love of her life, Mr. Derrick Polly, on March 25,1989 and together they shared thirty-seven years of love, devotion and a beautiful family.
Betty joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church at an early age, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member.
She had a love for floral arrangements, event planning, shopping and spending time with her great-nephew (aka Grandson).
In addition to her parents, and mother and father-in-law, Betty was preceded in death by her brothers, James R. Perrin and Bobby E. Payton; her late maternal grandparents, George and Alma Perrin; paternal grandmother and grandfather, Ada A. Lewis and Easton Payton; uncle, Calvin Perrin, Willie Joe Perrin, Sr., David Perrin, John Thomas Perrin, Roosevelt Perrin, George Freeman. and Claude Leverette; brother-in-law, Arthur Adams; niece, Brenda Adams; and nephew, Akhari Cade.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Derrick Polly of the home; loving son, Ricardo S. Payton of Columbia, SC; niece, Cabrina Polly of McCormick, SC; great nieces, Astacia (Omar) Adams of Greenwood, SC, and Payton Quillen of Columbia, SC; great nephew who she loved as a grandson, Aiden Hawes of Greenwood, SC; God son, Shakeam Jackson; sisters, Linda S. Adams of McCormick, SC, Diane J. (John) Payton of Capital Heights, MD, and Dr. Gail (Patrick) Fuller of Accokeek, MD; brothers, Robert O. Payton of Dortmund, Germany and Andrew (Eula) Payton of Greenwood, SC; sisters in-law, Patricia Thompkins of McCormick, SC, Frances Breakfield of Lynchburg, VA, Mary (Orlando) Lyons of Powder Spring, GA, and Julie Polly of McCormick, SC, Sharita Henderson of Augusta, GA, and aunts, Classie P. Freeman of Washington, DC, Hettie L. Leverette of Detroit, MI, Virginia Sibert of Washington, DC., Barbara Perrin of Clinton, Maryland, Robbie Sparks of Long Beach, CA; uncle, Willie (Janie) Franklin of Philadelphia, PA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many treasured friends.
