Mrs. Bessie D. Joyner was born on March 16, 1942 in Kingville, South Carolina to the late Ethel Mae and Ivory Clay Williams. She passed away peacefully on September 28, 2020 after a brief illness.
Bessie was a graduate of Webber High School and attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She was married to the late Buster Joyner. She was predeceased by an infant son and by her beloved daughter, Dora Y. Joyner. She was also predeceased by her sister, Margaret L. Williams and by her brother Carnell Williams.
She is survived by her sister, Carrie (Paul) Williams Brown of Brooklyn, NY; her brother, Lewis Williams of Gadsden, SC; half-brother, AP Williams of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law, Mrs. Julia Williams of Hopkins, SC; aunts, Mrs. Ada R. Hopkins of Gadsden, SC and Mrs. Earthalene Williams of Columbia, SC. Bessie is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and loving and devoted cousins. Her very dear and devoted cousin Mrs. Patricia A. Grate of Columbia, SC, whose devotion and love for Bessie, was a constant in her life.
The family would like to thank Bessie’s care providers at Palmetto Village in Chester, SC and especially Susie Watts and the hospice staff who provided excellent palliative care to Bessie before her transition. We will love and miss Bessie forever and will cherish her memory.
