Bertha Mae Stroman, the daughter of the late Tom Stroman and Lurline Stroman, was born March 2, 1942, a native of Aiken County. She was presently residing at 4529 Bluff Road in Columbia, South Carolina.
Bertha Mae attended Rich Hill School in Ridge Spring, SC. She retired from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. She was a member of Turkey Branch Baptist Church, where she was a member on hospitality and the choir, as well as a mentor to her goddaughter, Cierra Patterson. She was formerly a member of Zion Hopewell Full Gospel Family Worship Center.
On the afternoon of March 15, 2024, Bertha Mae departed this earthly life peacefully at the home of her daughter in Lexington, SC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Stroman; sister, Ruth Ann Meachum; son, Thomas Williams; and granddaughter, Stephanie Nicole Abney.
Those left to cherish her fond and precious memories are two daughters, Bertha L. Abney of Lexington, SC, and Betty Williams of New York; three sons, Nathaniel Williams of Monetta, SC, Rubin Williams, Jr. of Aiken, SC, and Robert Williams of Atlanta, GA; one aunt, Leither Tyler of Aiken, SC; one nephew, Leon Stroman of Monetta, SC; nine grandchildren, Teena “Princess” Williams of Monetta, SC, Darrel “Steve” Williams of Monetta, SC, Felicia “Sandy” Morris of Columbia, SC, Diedra “DeeDee” Morris of Saluda, SC, Brandon “P-nut” Marshall of Monetta, SC, Loretta Dozier of Gilbert, SC, Victoria Abney of Lexington, SC, Lachaundra Marshall of Monetta, SC, and Trayko Marshall of Monetta, SC; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren; a very special sister-in-law, Lolita Barber of Hopkins, SC; one brother-in-law, Jesse (Beverly) Stroman of Columbia, SC; two stepchildren, Lorenzo (Marisol) Stroman, and Dorothea Stroman both of Columbia, SC; three step-grandchildren; goddaughter, Charlene (Mike) Javis of Charlotte, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
