Bertha M. Wicker Obituary

Bertha Mae “Bert” Sanders Wicker was born November 29, 1949, in Jenkinsville, SC the beloved daughter of the late Major and Katie Lou Murphy Bell. She departed this life on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at PRISMA Health Richland Hospital, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Bertha was educated in the Fairfield County School system and was employed for many years with Merrill Lynch. After retiring from Merrill Lynch, she worked at the Lowman Home in White Rock, SC.

She was married to the late James A. Wicker, and to their union a beautiful and loving family was formed.

Mrs. Wicker was a member of Pine Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church, Little Mountain, SC. During her tenure at Pine Grove, she served as a Steward, a member of the Sr. Choir, the Women’s Missionary Society, Church school, and Stewardess Board. She was also dedicated in service to others, volunteering with Rape Crisis Network, Guardian Ad Litem, volunteer chaplaincy program at Richland Memorial Hospital and several other agencies. She will be missed by all those who loved and knew her.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Bert was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Willie L. Youmans.

She is lovingly survived by her three children, Stacy Curry, Christopher and Ray Wicker all of Irmo, SC; nine grandchildren, Brittany and Bryant Curry, Kadija Nelson, Esha Wicker, Christopher “CJ” Wicker, Cortez Pollock, Raykwon Foust-Wicker, Tachelle Foust-Wicker and Rayshon Hook;  eleven great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
