Berrita Brown Obituary

Berrita "Benita" Brown was born on July 16, 1953 in Waycross, GA to the parents of Pulmer Smiley and Gertie Smiley. To this union seventeen children were born.

Her parents and 13 siblings preceded her in death on February 19, 2021.

Benita was reared and educated in Pierce County Georgia. She developed an interest in healthcare and graduated from Waycross-Ware County Area Vocational-Technical School in 1972 with a diploma in Licensed Practical Nursing. She went on to impact many lives through her vocation. Benita worked in various nursing specialties including long term care, private duty nursing, primary care and oncology.

She married Ira Brown Jr. on January 3, 1975 in Blackshear, Georgia and remained married for 46 years and produced two wonderful children, Sonya Cook and Ira Brown Ill. She continued her work in nursing until she retired from Moncrief Army Hospital at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina in 2005.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Ira Brown Jr.; her eldest daughter Sonya M. Cook; her son, Ira Brown III; her stepson, Kevin Pritchett, Sr; her grandchildren, Christian Best, Trinity Best, Jalen Cook, Kalyn Cook, Kevin Pritchett Jr.; great grandchildren, Kolton Cook; sisters, Edith Jackson of Miami, FL, Hattie White of Marion, NY, Elizabeth White of Deltona, FL. Carolyn Hill of Decatur, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief experienced by her passing.
