Benjamin Franklin Owens was born July 20, 1945, in Branchville, South Carolina, the son of the late Harvey Page and Dora Owens Page, and grandson of the late Jesse Owens and Lillie Owens. He departed this life on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Benjamin attended primary and secondary schools in Richland School District One including Carver Elementary School, W.A. Perry Middle School, graduating from C. A. Johnson High School in the Class of 1963, and Palmer College. Benjamin held many occupations in retail, healthcare and the military including Belk Department Store, S.C. Department of Mental Health, The U.S. Army, Community Blood and Plasma Center, Baxter Plasma Center, and retiring from the NABI Biomedical Plasma Center in Columbia, South Carolina.
Benjamin accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend C.B. Freeman at Jehovah Baptist Church on Gregg Street in Columbia, SC and later under Reverend Stanley Marshall. During his tenure at Jehovah, he served in the Senior Ministry. He was also faithfully in the community, always being a helping hand in missionary work, such as with the resettlement of Somali refugees in Columbia, South Carolina and making charitable contributions to those in need.
Benjamin enjoyed people in general, and he had a love for taking pictures of all his family and friends, carrying a camera wherever he went to capture moments. He was a loving brother, to his siblings, and a loving uncle to his nephews and nieces, always helping them in any way that he could throughout their lives, financially and even in their academics.
In addition to his parents, Benjamin was preceded in death by his brother, Marion Haskell Owens.
Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories are his caring brothers, Elder Whitman Page, Sr. and twins, Deacon Eldred (Iris) Page and Earl Page; loving sister, Janice (Charles) Coleman; sister-in-law, Marcell Owens; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him, but rejoice that he has started his eternal journey in Heaven with the Lord.
