Benjamin Franklin Alston was born on February 15, 1949, in the Arthur Town Community in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Daniel Alston Sr. and Daisy Mae Ashford Alston. He departed this earthly life on Monday, May 19, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was raised in the Richard Street Community.
Benjamin Alston was educated in the public schools of the Lower Richland County, where he attended Hopkins High School. Benjamin Alston was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he would earn a Purple Heart Military Honor and served in the Vietnam War. He was later employed with the Veterans Administration.
Benjamin’s hobbies included fishing, wrestling, watching football, and playing bingo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, David Alston, Clarence Alston Sr., Daniel Alston Jr., and Willie James Alston; and brother-in-law, Evra Lee Jacobs Sr.
Those who are cherishing his fond and precious memories are his son, Benjamin Harden; his five grandchildren; his sister, Betty Jean Jacobs Alston; brother, James (Denise) Wesley Alston; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and other loving relatives and friends.
