Annie Mae (Green) Holman was born August 6, 1926, in Sumter County, the beloved daughter of the late Mary Eliza (Baker) Grant and Levi Williams. At the age of five, her mother Mary passed away. She and her sister were then raised by her stepfather, Walter Green and his sister. She departed this earthly life for eternal life with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina.
During her early years, Annie worked on a farm, she later relocated to Columbia, where she resided with her sister. She later met and married her husband, James “Gain” Holman, the two shared years of love and devotion together until he went home to be with the Lord in 1994.
Annie attended the public schools in Sumter County, in Rembert, South Carolina. She was employed in hotels, restaurants and in family homes for many years. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking. She also loved spending time with family and her great-grandson, Maurice King, Jr. (who now resides in Misawa, Japan).
Mrs. Holman was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of House Street. Though she is no longer physically with us, she has left a legacy of love and devotion to all those who loved and knew her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three of her children, Villa Nora Green and James Green, both of Newark NJ, and Larry (Nammu) Holman of Columbia, SC.
Those left to cherish fond and precious memories of Annie Mae are her loving son, LeRoy Holman; and daughter, Bernice (Sammie) Alexander, both of Columbia, SC; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Holman of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, April Alexander and Chris Alexander, both of Columbia, SC; James, Anthony, Cassandra, Telesha and Darryl Green, all of Newark, NJ, and Chris Jones of Columbia, SC; niece, Tara Cheeseboro; and nephew, Mark Levine of Newark, NJ, and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
