Annie Bouknight Cunningham Obituary

Annie Lee Bouknight Cunningham, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was born January 23, 1937, and raised “on the Hill” in State Park, South Carolina. She was the second of seven children born to the late Dan Bouknight and Elnora Bell Bouknight, and the stepdaughter to the late Farie Bell Bouknight. Annie entered eternal rest on the afternoon of Sunday, June 29, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family.

Annie attended the public schools of Richland County and then worked as a patient and private caretaker. She retired from Midlands Center after 30 years of dedicated service.

She was a proud member of Zion Canaan Baptist Church, where she worshiped since childhood.

Annie was married to the love of her life, the late Henry “Pop” Cunningham, for over 60 years. Annie and Pop shared a deep, unwavering love and their bond was undeniable. Whether traveling or simply enjoying a delicious meal, they made ordinary moments unforgettable. Their love was a blessing to witness, and even after his passing, Annie carried that love with her every day.

Annie was the heart and soul of her family — fiercely loyal, protective, and full of life. She loved her family with every fiber of her being, and she showed it.

She was the devoted mother to seven children, Debbie, Sharon, Clifford Jr., Jerome, Tony, Tracy, and Gary. A dedicated mother, she stood by her children through every challenge and triumph, encouraging them with tough love and unwavering support.

She was also a very proud grandmother who believed in success and pushed her grandchildren to strive for excellence. Annie faithfully rewarded them with $20 when they made the Honor Roll. “Whatever it takes,” she’d say with a proud smile and chuckle.

Beyond her love for family, Annie enjoyed life’s simple and joyful pleasures. She loved to travel, with frequent trips to Myrtle Beach and Florida, where she enjoyed spending time with family. She found peace in baking bread — always ready to gift a loaf to others — and never turned down a good day of shopping. These were her moments of joy, and she shared them freely with those around her.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, she is also predeceased by four siblings, Daisy Mitchell, Joe Dan (J.D.) Bouknight, Minnie Foster, and Margaret Thomas.

Annie is lovingly remembered by her children, Debbie, Sharon, Clifford Jr. (Dorothy), Tony, Jerome (Briggette), Tracy, and Gary; a special granddaughter raised in the home, Katrinia Smith; sisters, Lorraine Bouknight-Gayton (Jimmy) and Vertell Jenkins;  her brother, Earl Bouknight (Ann); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
