Mr. Allen. E. Evans was born to the Late James and Esther Mae Davis Evans. After a courageous fight with cancer, he peacefully departed this life on Monday, September 7, 2020 at his home in Columbia, South Carolina surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his elder sister, Mrs. Daisy Tidwell Mack (July 8, 1995) and his elder brother James Edward Evans (August 12, 2012) and wife Katie Jackson Evans.
Mr. Evans attended C. A. Johnson High School. Shortly after graduating from high school he joined the military in 1967 and was deployed to Vietnam. After serving our country for 20 years, he received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Armed Services (Army). He mostly served in Vietnam, completing several tours with Special Forces. Upon returning to Columbia, South Carolina, he worked with the SC Department of Social Services Administration.
He was best known for his kind character and friendliness. He never met a stranger and always sported a smile. He was very generous and never held a grudge and always had a joke to tell, family said he was our family comedian. He was affectionately called “Pops”.
Mr. Allen E. Evans is survived by his three sons; Allen E. (Janee) Evans, Jr., Derek (Michelle) Evans and Jaysen (Nicole) Evans all of Columbia, South Carolina; two elder sisters, Delma E. Bolden of Oakland, California and Helen E. Njoku of White Plains, Maryland; twelve grandchildren; five great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and caring friends who love him dearly and will miss him.
