Allean Harris was born in Bradley, Arkansas on January 6, 1951, to Jimmie and Lovie Harris.
Allean was the youngest of twenty siblings and knew at a young age, family was community and community was family. Allean accepted Jesus Christ early in life and grew up in the shadow of Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church just behind her childhood home.
Allean was a graduate of Bumpham High School in 1968, attended Butler College 1969-71 and Texas College from 1971-72 where she received her Bachelor’s in Education. From 1972-74, Allean served in the Teachers Corp and earned the degree of Master of Education in 1974 from the University of South Carolina.
Allean was a gifted teacher, who loved her students, treated them like they were her children and encouraged them to be great. In 1974 she began her teaching career where she taught 7th & 8th grades at Mt. Zion Elementary and Fairfield Middle Schools in Fairfield County. In 2003 she began teaching Adult Education in Fairfield County Schools, retiring in 2007 after 33 years of dedication to the educational system.
Allean had a passion for service and generously volunteered within several organizations such as the Brookland Baptist Sisterhood of Brookland Baptist Church (West Columbia) where she was a member. She also served with the Capital Senior Center and Fairfield County School District Retirees.
Allean departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on May 10, 2025, at home in Columbia SC. She is predeceased in death by her parents, Jimmie and Lovie Harris; seven brothers, Willie Neal, Jessie Neal, Jimmie Harris II (Mae Jean), Huey Harris, Jack Neal (Christine), Paul Harris and James “Pee-Wee” Harris (Marie); eight sisters, Rutha Lee Neal, Roberta “Sis” Neal, Martha Ann Harris, Reatha Mae Hubbard, Ophelia Dews, Minnie Dora Lowe, Mamie Duffy and Shirley Johnson (George); and nephew Kevin Johnson.
Allean leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Lue Berta Harris of Sacramento, CA; brother-in-law, George R. Johnson of Dayton, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
