Mrs. Alice M. Trapp Werts was born April 27, 1931. in Blair, South Carolina, the youngest daughter of the late Lawrence and Leila Sims Trapp. She entered eternal rest on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Blair, South Carolina. She was educated in the Fairfield County Public Schools.
Alice was united into holy matrimony to the late Raymond Werts and to this union three sons were born. Shortly after their marriage, she became a member of Second Nazareth Baptist Church and was a faithful member until the Lord called her home to be with him. She was a member of the Willing Workers Club at the church where she participated in helping to coordinate various church events. Additionally, she was a member of the neighborhood association in her community where she assisted in organizing neighborhood barbeques.
Alice was a gifted seamstress that family, friends, and neighbors sought out for tailoring, alterations, and repair of their clothing. Because of her creative designs and talent for sewing, she maintained many of her customers for years.
Beyond her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she had a wonderful spirit of kindness that drew people of all ages to her. She is affectionally called “Mom” and “Grandmom” by many in her community, as she had a knack for nurturing and providing unconditional love. It is this vibrant spirit that will live on in the hearts and lives of all her loved ones, even though she is no longer physically with us. She will truly be missed.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Alice was also preceded in death by her brothers, Claude, Lawrence, Jr., Andrew and David Trapp; and sisters, Etta B Smith, Carrie Kilgore, and Annie Tobe.
Alice leaves to cherish her loving memory three sons, Ernest Raymond (Darcel) Werts of Hilton Head Island, SC; Nathaniel (Carlotta) Werts and Gene Alex Werts, both of Columbia, SC; seven (7) grandchildren, Ashley Werts, Jarryd Werts, Ahna Werts, Jason Werts, and Nadera Harrison, Kendrick Bryant, and Decharm Bryant; five (5) great grandchildren, Ashlyn Hill, Nora Werts, Quincy Werts, Keyona Harrison, and Kendrick Bryant Jr.; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will miss her.
