Alice Bowman

November 16, 1929 ~ July 11, 2021 (age 91)

Obituary

Alice Saxon Bowman was graced upon this earth on November 16, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the youngest of four children born to the late Richard and Berlie Reynolds Saxon. Her temporary struggles on earth were eclipsed by eternal glories on July 11, 2021.

On January 3, 1948, Alice was united in holy matrimony to Reverend William L. Bowman during her first year of college. Her husband preceded her in death after 66 years of marriage.

Alice was a woman of integrity, who accepted the word, Jesus Christ and her salvation with a deep passion for praising God and rendering service. Her Christian work and responsibilities were usually channeled though her husbands pastorage.  She was an optimist, always dwelling on the positive, who enjoyed sharing what she acquired and possessed with the church, family, friends and charity.

Alice was educated through the school systems of South Carolina. She earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Allen University in Columbia, SC and a Master of Science Degree from South Carolina State University.

Her thirty-eight-year professional career as a public-school teacher was outstanding. She gave her complete dedication and expertise to teaching her students. Her innate articulate teaching abilities were recognized and she was presented the teacher of the year award at Jasper Primary School, Pineland, SC. She loved and adored her students. Alice retired with honors in 1988.

In the sunset years of her life, Alice moved back to Columbia, SC and joined First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John K. Baxter.

In loving memory, she leaves her sister, Mrs. Helen Saxon-Jones of Los Angeles, CA; uncles, Joseph Reynolds of Due West, SC; sisters in-law, Mrs. Essie (Rev. Edwin) Bryant of the home, Mrs. Ida Price of Temple Hills, MD, Mrs. Ollie (William) Jemoney of Sultland, MD, Mrs. Lillie Bowman of Greenwood, SC; brothers-in-law, George (Lonakay) Bowman of Edgefield, SC; nieces, nephews, two godsons and other relatives and friends.
